Teenager Grace Kuilamu's double has secured Brisbane a 2-0 home win over Melbourne Victory, while Newcastle fought back from two goals down to draw 3-3 at home.

A first-half double to 17-year-old striker Grace Kuilamu propelled Brisbane Roar to a 2-0 win over Melbourne Victory and outright second spot in the A League Women's ladder.

The win moved Roar three points clear of third-placed Victory and within one point of ladder-leaders Melbourne City.

Kuilamu scored from close range in the 23rd and 37th minutes to reward the Roar for their domination of the first half in which they had eight shots on target to Victory's one.

In the earlier ALW match on Wednesday, fourth-placed Adelaide squandered a glorious chance to move closer to the top three when they surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 away to Newcastle.

At Brisbane's Perry Park, Kuilamu's first goal came from a header after Victory goalkeeper Courtney Newbon tipped an Emily Pringle shot onto the woodwork.

The youngster was on hand to pounce again when Newbon pushed away a Sharn Frier effort.

Matilda Freier caused Victory plenty of problems down their right side with Pringle also excelling.

Newbon kept her team in the game with some smart first-half saves in front of almost 3,000 fans.

Roar had chances to score after half-time, while Victory had their best opportunities in the last 20 minutes with Matildas striker Emily Gielnik twice denied by Roar goalkeeper Olivia Sekany.

At No.2 Sportsground in Newcastle, the Jets and Adelaide combined for 38 attempts on goal in a thrilling match in horrible conditions.

The players were lashed by strong rain and wind with surface water creating several puddles on the pitch.

Fiona Worts, who scored both Adelaide goals in their 2-0 home win over Newcastle last month, was on target again in the fourth minute of Wednesday's clash.

Five goals were scored in an amazing final quarter.

Emily Condon scored a fine solo goal against the run of play in the 74th minute to double Adelaide's lead.

Newcastle substitute Josie Allan pulled one back with a speculative cross-cum-shot which looped over Adelaide goalkeeper Claudia Jenkins, but Lucia Leon quickly restored Adelaide's two goal lead by heading in a Condon cross.

But the Jets refused to yield and headed goals from Deven Jackson in the 84th minute and sub Claire Adams in the third minute of added time secured ninth-placed Newcastle a hard-earned draw.
