After an opening day of rain, the Australian Open was flooded with home winners at Melbourne Park on Monday.

PLAYER OF THE DAY: Talia Gibson - the 20-year-old wildcard posted her maiden win at a grand slam to be the first home hope to reach the second round.

STAT OF THE DAY: Uninspired former finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas bombed out with a four-set loss to American Alex Michelsen, marking the first time the Greek superstar has lost in the opening round at successive slams since his first two back in 2017.
