Favourite Gazza’s Spirit broke through for a deserved win at start number 12, taking out the 1100m maiden in Hobart on Friday, downing first-starter The Trine ($35) with Tosen Fame ($8.50) a close third.

The busy start to 2025 Tasmanian thoroughbred racing continues in Hobart on Friday afternoon, where an eight-race program features the Listed Ladbrokes Tasmanian Guineas.

As he does so often, trainer Stuart Gandy landed the first two-year-old winner of the season with Zany Girl ($9.00) running down Star Fortian ($8) in the last few strides to win narrowly in Hobart on Sunday.

Sunday thoroughbred racing is in Hobart where a strong nine-race card follows a terrific night in Launceston on Wednesday. The opening race of the day is the first 2YO race of the season, while the $50,000 Winzenberg Handicap is the feature of the afternoon. The rail is +3m with a good-rated track expected.

Esprit Diva ($5) made it two wins from two starts and gave trainer John Luttrell and jockey Anthony Darmanin winning doubles with another impressive win in Hobart on Tuesday, and could be set for bigger and better.
