German Group winner Mawingo will be imported to Australia to contest the Sydney autumn carnival.
The Australian syndicate who imported this year's Melbourne Cup third placegetter Lucas Cranach from Germany have secured the three-year-old Mawingo.
Previously trained by Jens Hirschberger in Germany, Mawingo will join Lucas Cranach in the Anthony Freedman stable for his autumn campaign.
Mawingo has raced seven times in Europe, winning the G3 Bavarian Classic at Munich over 2000m in May before running fourth in the G1 Deutches (German) Derby over 2400m on an unsuitable track.
Mawingo then went on to tackle open age G1 horses in Italy in the Premio Roma over 2000m in November.
He again struck an unsuitable wet track and was beaten just over four lengths by subsequent Hong Kong Cup third placegetter Zazou and multiple European G1 winner Rio De La Plata.
Rio De La Plata boasts placings behind the likes of Frankel and Excellebration this season in Europe.
Mawingo's purchase has been completed by Newcastle-based Australian Bloodstock, who have built an envious record with their acquisitions in recent times such as Lucas Cranach, Master Of Design, Uate and Latin News.
"Mawingo is a Group 1 performer in the making and it was merely a matter of securing him this season before he began winning at the highest level when he would have been very difficult to buy," said Australian Bloodstock's Luke Murrell.
"We are very excited about him and Anthony Freedman is confident that the horse has what it takes.
"We have been constantly looking for these types of horses and finding one that ticks every possible box is no mean feat.
"This horse, like Lucas Cranach, can rattle off an amazing sectional and the form around him this season in Europe doesn't get any better."
