Shooter to salute at Hawkesbury

The sixth race of the day at Hawkesbury is an interesting 1300m Class 1 handicap contest set to take place on a heavy 9 track.

The Lee & Cherie Curtis-trained Inquisitive Legend is expected to start favourite here, having registered a good fourth in a similar contest over track and trip on 23rd May.

The three-year-old had previously recorded a mid-field finish when seventh in a similar contest over 1250m at Newcastle.

While the filly is unproven on the forecasted going, her maiden win at Newcastle first up this prep came on a soft 5 surface and she wears a tongue tie for the first time here.

A wide barrier is a negative in this contest however, given she has raced from the front in all three starts this prep and BIG SHOOTER is preferred in this contest.

The gelding recorded some good placed efforts in 2023 including twice over 1000m at this venue.

The selection belatedly broke his maiden when successful by over half-a-length in a course and distance contest last month.

That success came on the pick's first outing on a heavy 8 surface and he is expected to appreciate the testing underfoot conditions here.

While the son of Shooting To Win could finish only sixth in a similar race to this last time, that effort marked a respectable first start in Class 1 company.

The four-year-old raced on a good 4 track that day and, with an inside alley, looks worth another chance on his return to a wet track.

Evie for Lismore glory

The fifth race at Lismore is a Class 1 & Maiden Plate contest due to take place over 1526m.

Military Ward is expected to have his supporters, having registered third place finishes in two of his last three starts.

The gelding raced at metro level when beaten just over one-and-a-half-lengths in a Benchmark 68 handicap over 1350m at Doomben earlier this month.

The three-year-old had registered a solid two-and-a-half-length sixth in a Class 1 contest on a soft 7 track at Grafton and he rates highly in this field.

However, the gelding is vulnerable to less exposed rivals and KISSED BY EVIE is preferred on this occasion.

Trained by Mark Du Plessis, the youngster demonstrated ability when placing third over 1000m at Sunshine Coast when debuting in October.

While the pick failed to shine over 1100m at Gold Coast subsequently, she broke her maiden first up this prep in a 1350m contest at Ipswich last month.

The three-year-old had a subsequent winner back in third and delivered a highly creditable fifth in a metro Class 1 event at Doomben.

Kissed By Evie selection was beaten just under three lengths when racing over 1350m that day, with the third and fourth in that race both winning in the interim.

Glenn Thornton's mount has a good barrier here and, with further improvement expected, she is taken to deliver a victory stepping up in distance.

Hunter to take Mackay finale

The finale at Mackay is a competitive looking 1050m Benchmark 70 handicap.

A good 4 track is expected for the 14-runner contest, with BOLD HUNTER selected to register his sixth career win.

The gelding has finished in the first three in all six previous starts at this venue with those efforts including two victories.

Seven-year-old Bold Hunter was partnered by his jockey here Mckenzie Apel when winning by half-a-length in an 1100m Class 6 event here on his penultimate start.

The selection jumped from an inside alley that day and went on to register a good two-and-a-half-length third in a Benchmark 70 over the same track and trip.

Joshua Manzelmann's gelding has underfoot conditions to suit and is taken to return to winning ways.
