Dual Group 1 winner will have his final start at the Breeders’ Cup
The Ger Lyons-trained dual Group 1 winner Siskin (First Defence) will head to stud in Japan after one final start at the Breeders’ Cup next month.
Unbeaten in his two-year-old season which culminated in a victory in the Phoenix Stakes (Gr 1, 6f), Siskin resumed as a three-year-old in June taking out the Irish 2,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m). His first career defeat came the following month when he finished third in the Sussex Stakes (Gr 1, 1m) behind Mohaather (Showcasing) and the colt was last seen running fourth behind Persian King (Kingman) in the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp (Gr 1, 1600m) at Longchamp.
"I’m delighted for him because he’s going to get a quality book of mares that he probably wouldn’t get in Ireland, but I’d have loved to have trained him at four," Lyons told Nick Luck Daily.
"But it just goes to show you where we are in the industry when powerhouses like Juddmonte, Coolmore still sell their best horses and have to sell their best horses for economic reasons.”
Bred by Juddmonte Farms, Siskin is from the family of sires in Cityscape (Selkirk) and Bated Breath (Dansili).
