Deron Kit breaks maiden at Siracusa
Former Twin Hills shuttler Bobby’s Kitten (Kitten’s Joy) was represented by his 11th first-crop winner on Saturday as Deron Kit (2 c ex Luisa Calderon by Nayef) got off the mark on his ninth attempt when winning over 1700 metres at Siracusa in Italy.
The two-year-old colt pulled clear to post a decisive three and three-quarter length victory over Under Secret (Pearl Secret), while Flashmob (Frozen Power) was another length further away in third.
The colt was purchased for a mere 12,000gns at Book 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and he is out of the unraced Nayef (Gulch) mare Luisa Calderon, who is herself a sister to 2008 Prix de l'Opera (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Lady Marian - the dam of dual Group 2 scorer Loxley (New Approach).
Luisa Calderon also counts Group 3 winner Lucidor (Zafonic) and the dam of this year’s Geelong Cup (Gr 3, 2400m) runner-up Le Don De Vie (Leroidesanimaux)) among her half-siblings.
JC Thoroughbreds will offer the only lot by Bobby’s Kitten at next week’s New Zealand Bloodstock Ready To Run Sale. The gelding is catalogued as Lot 247.
Bobby’s Kitten shuttled to Australia for one season in 2017 and now resides exclusively at Lanwades Stud and he will stand for a slightly reduced fee of £7,000 in 2021, having stood the 2020 term at £8,000. The stallion’s first crop includes stakes-placegetter Monaasib.
