Royal Stud's based sire had been pensioned since 2014

Pensioned stallion Royal Applause (Waajib) has died at the age of 29. 

The Maktoum Al Maktoum homebred was trained by Barry Hills, winning Group 1 races at two and four. He was unbeaten in four starts as a juvenile in 1995 which culminated in a victory in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes (6f) at Newmarket. Two years later he added a second Group 1 victory when he took out the Sprint Cup (6f) at Haydock. He was retired to stud for the 1998 season, his fee set at £6,500 and stood his entire career at the Royal Studs in Norfolk, covering his last book of mares in 2014.

Royal Applause's leading performers include Grade 1 winner Ticker Tape and Grade 2 winner Battle Of Hastings, who was his sire's leading earner. His leading sire son meanwhile is Acclamation and he has also made an impact as a broodmare sire - Group 1 winner and sire Blue Point is out of one of his daughters.
