Riebeek Ready To Bounce Back

3 minute read

The races at Warwick Farm today are pretty thin after scratchings but handy galloper Riebeek looks one of the better bets in the Rosehill Picnincs 1/11 Handicap (race 4).

Prepared at Kembla Grange by Stephen Hill, Riebeek is coming back in grade an looks well placed in this 1000m welter after the claim.

Riebeek was a 1000m winner here four starts back in a Benchmark 75, settling back on the inside before running on for a strong win.

He then tackled a Benchmark 85 over 1100m at Rosehill. There he sat third and turned there, battling on well to finish fourth.

Back to Warwick Farm over 1100m in heavy ground he returned to his best again. Settling fourth, he turned there and knuckled down strongly in the straight, drawing clear to score a three-quarter length win.

Last start was back to a Benchmark 85 over 1200m at Rosehill.

There he drew wide and worked across to sit second, before fading over the final stages and finishing eighth.

Today he drops in weight after the claim and returns to Warwick Farm where he has three wins and a second form five runs.

The gelding is comfortable in the soft ground, has very honest form at the trip and goes well at the track and distance.

He should be camped just off the lead and hard to beat here.

My Vegas is resuming from a spell but does go well fresh and looks the biggest danger.

The John McNair-trained entire hasn't raced since finishing 10th in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes during the winter, just finding the class a bit tough.

His form before that was sound for this grade, though, winning three back over 1200m at Rosehill.

That was in a Benchmark 90 where he got back but ran on hard to score an easy win.

He then raced over 1100m at Rosehill in a Benchmark 85 and drew wide so went back to the tail.

He sat wide throughout and made good late ground, finishing a four length sixth behind See The World.

The gelding then went into the stakes race where he finishing seven lengths form Title before a spell.

He has won three of seven starts fresh and does have a solid record at the trip.

He will get back but in the soft ground will be powering home late.

Lighthorseman ran his best race for some time last start, sitting just off the pace here before battling on well for second.

A repeat of that run with the light weight today would see him in the mix again.

Redhandedjill was well held at her last run before a spell but does go well fresh and has a good weight and draw.

Dragon's Keep is racing in top form and should give a sight.
