Sound The Alarms

3 minute read

In form galloper Alarms may well prove a good anchor bet for quaddie players in today's NMIT Handicap (race 6) at Kyneton.

The Anthony Freedman trained three-year-old has won his last two runs with authority and can well bring up the hat-trick in what looks a good race for him over 1200m.

Alarms, a son of Lonhro, ran fourth over 1000m on debut then was runner up in open two year old class at Morphettville before a spell.

He returned as a three year old over 1112m here and after settling fourth worked home steadily but couldn't quite catch Chi Chi.

Second up was over 1207m at Mornington where he sat just off the speed again but in the heavy ground proved too good, running on for a 1.3 length maiden win.

Back here in an RB68, he sat third and turned there before cruising away with a two length win.

While he meets the next class up today, he won't find this field any harder and what looked his main danger on paper, Peter Mody's Glamour Rock, has been scratched.

Alarms will camp just off the pace again here and should prove the one to beta in the straight.

With Glamour Rock out, Arthur Pace's Principia looks the main danger.

The honest gelding finds it hard to win but last campaign raced seven times and placed at every start, including his last two before a spell in town.

They were at Moonee Valley, finishing a head second over 1200m in an RB82 on top of the ground then third in a no metropolitan winners race there over 1000m on a slow track.

After a long spell the gelding resumed over 975m at Swan Hill and raced on the speed before fading to finish fourth.

It was no surprise after almost a year off that he would tire, especially after working on the pace early.

He will be much fitter for that run and is suited by the longer journey here.

The easier grade suits, he has drawn well and looks likely to be in the finish again.

Lightly raced galloper Guru Bay turned in a career worst run last time but there were excuses and he can improve sharply here.

The gelding was a five length winner on debut then fourth in town on a heavy track.

He then won on the all weather again at Geelong and led throughout to score by four lengths before finishing runner up there at his first try at 1300m.

He resumed over 955m at Moonee Valley in one of the 55 second challenges and after drawing an outside gate was wide throughout before fading to finish a four length 11th.

He is far better than that and will not only find this easier but has drawn ideally in gate three.

He is expected to be a big improver today.

Not A Copy had no luck last time and although getting on has a great record at the trip and won his only try at the track and trip.

He can feature in the finish from a good draw.
