Mahican Cut Above Rivals At Geelong

3 minute read

Mahican resumes from a spell at Geelong today and looks hard to beat in the Mantra Hotels Benchmark 70 Handicap (1200m).

The Peter Moody-trained runner produced good form last campaign, running third in the Listed Bendigo Guineas (1400m) before a spell, and that form reads very well for this.

Mahican drops back 200m on that effort, a trip he has won over previously and first up in this company should be winning on his way to bigger things this preparation.

Luke Nolen maintains the ride and despite jumping from a wide barrier in this small field, rates well clear of these on best form and should prove too good for this bunch.

Spirit Cent returned in good order when resuming at this C/D last start and has an outstanding second up record, winning four of seven.

Drawn to get the rails run and expect the seven-year-old to push forward and take plenty of running down in this.

Only thing against appears to be the 1200m, having not won in 11 attempts, placing on only three occasions.

Providence also stays under notice landing the prize here 18 days ago. Races well here as a rule and won't be too far from the mark with a 3kg claim for apprentice jockey.

Expect him to not be far away from barrier three and will give a sight over the concluding stages.

Trouble In Vegas looks the best of the rest, winner of three of his five starts this campaign.

Led throughout for a strong win at Donald two back. Led and boxed on soundly last time and has claims here.

These look the main chances however based on best form Mahican rates well clear on weight adjusted Timeform ratings and should get the job done on his way to bigger races this spring.
