Chalaza To Notch Up The Hat-Trick

3 minute read

The Steven Burridge trained Chalaza proved most impressive last start and appears well placed to notch up the hat-trick in the seventh event at Singapore this evening.

Only lightly raced, Chalaza broke through for a handy maiden win two back before taking another step forward last start.

Ridden by Danny Beasley, Chalaza had no concerns with the step up in grade, and appeared to relish the faster tempo of the 1200m event.

In his first two starts, Chalaza had lined up over 1400m and while still wanting to do a bit wrong, he appears to be heading the right way.

Well supported to start the $2.40 favourite, Chalaza settled towards the rear, with both Mastermind and Miss Waimataitai ensuring a solid tempo in front.

Allowed to work through his gears by Beasley, Chalaza started to slice his way through the field and once clear passing the 300m, he really started to launch.

Displaying a sharp turn of foot, Chalaza quickly swept to the front inside the 200m, before drawing clear over the concluding stages.

Eased down late to score by just over a length, Chalaza returned a new career peak and remains open to further improvement.

Comparatively he returned the second quickest time of the meeting and notably returned time figures marginally ahead of the bare form (adjusted).

It's never easy for a horse to make the rise from a maiden to Class 4 company, the fact Chalaza also did it dropping back in trip, further pushes his claims as a promising type.

Chalaza will no doubt improve with time and gives the impression he will be even better at 1400m and up to a mile.

Rising 3kg off his last win, Chalaza will no doubt have to improve to win again, however all indications suggest he can.

From the awkward draw, Chalaza shouldn't be too far away and if able to continue his upwards rating spiral, he should prove hard to beat.

The David Hill trained Gold Faith remains a big watch in his Singapore debut, formerly trained in the UK.

A winner of two of his eight starts, Gold Faith is clearly better over further, however he still appears capable of sprinting well fresh.

Gold Faith won his sole trial in the lead up and is already a winner over 1400m.

From the good draw he looks to receive all the favours and rates highly on best form, Alan Munro links aboard for the first time and he looms as a major threat.

Last start winner Really Capable has placed in six of 10 attempts and is a noted flier at this course and distance.

Although receiving no favours with the draw, he is certainly more than capable and has to be respected with Duric sticking aboard.

Of the rest the Cliff Brown trained Mr Fatkid appears the next best.

Solid in both starts to begin this preparation, he now appears set to peak racing third up and Michael Rodd appears a key booking.

Only lightly raced he remains open to good improvement and has to be kept safe.
