Race by race Belmont preview - Wednesday, 4th December 2024

3 minute read

Midweek racing heads to Belmont with seven competitive races on the card.

With horses coming back from feature racing and some progressive types on resumption, there's plenty to like about the racing on Wednesday.

The best part is you can watch all the action live and free on 7Plus and Racing WA

Race 1: BISLEY WORKWEAR HANDICAP (1200m)

DIVINE IMPACT (1) drops right back from Listed and G3 company today following a midfield finish in the Champion Fillies last time out. She also drops right back in trip today, but she has sprinted well earlier this campaign. Drawn nicely for Parnham, she can be prominent in the run and get back to winning ways. BLACK ORA (5) closed off fairly but never looked a threatening chance over 1000m at Belmont last start. Out to 1200m now looks perfect and Pike remaining in the saddle is a big tick. Wide alley, but can be running over the top of them late. AT YOUR SERVICE (7) steps out to 1200m now after closing off strongly last start in the same race as Black Ora. She too looks as though she'll relish the extra furlong now and it wouldn't surprise to see her take closer order from the barrier. Big chance. SUNSHINE TAFE (6) resumed in good order at Belmont and can build on that run today. CARAWAY (10) drops back in trip today but her run two back will see her in the finish.

Race 2: UNITE RESOURCING MAIDEN (1650m)

Tricky race. ROMANTIC RULER (1) is building towards a maiden victory, finishing just 0.3L off the winner at Belmont most recently. He's had a few goes now, but he's in career-best form, and getting out to this trip now looks ideal. Can improve again and shed the maiden tag. DANEA ROCK (7) has been racing over further more recently but drops back to 1650m today following a 29-day freshen. She did jump favourite at Bunbury last time out and now CJP hops in the saddle. Should be right in the finish if she can run to her recent figures back in trip. REEL THEMOFF (3) was good late on resumption at Bunbury and should appreciate the rise in distance today. The winkers go on for the first time today and with improvement expected, he won't be far away. LATTE WITH PRO (5) looks as though he's ready for this trip now and can go to another level from a good barrier. SWEET SURRENDER (13) ticks a few boxes today with Pike riding and she can feature in the finish.

Race 3: LIBERTIES INSURANCE HANDICAP (1000m)

RISSOLES (3) is a progressive type on resumption today, ending last campaign with a couple of good runs in Saturday grade last time in. She's trialled nicely in readiness for this and she has placed at this track and trip in the past. Drawn well and looks to have a class edge on her rivals. COONDLE (2) just felt the pinch late first-up at this track and trip and should be better for that effort. He did improve with racing through his debut campaign and he has the speed to be prominent in the run. May prove tough to run down. OSCAR CHARLIE (4) was good first-up before a disappointing run here a fortnight ago where he never got into the race. Now third-up, he can bounce back to his best figures and put his best foot forward. PINGERS (7) was strong from the front at Albany first-up and a couple of winners have come out of that race. CJP rides now and she's worth thought. SHASFA (5) is in the mix on her best form.

Race 4: STUDCO HANDICAP (1200m)

SHOOTING SPIRIT (3) bounced back last start off an 88-day letup with a strong win over 1000m here. Stepping up in trip today should suit, particularly from an inside barrier. Can get back to his best figures now and bring up back-to-back wins. PLAY THE BLUFF (5) resumes without a trial today. He was a beaten favourite at Northam to end last campaign but the form out of that was solid. Happy to think he was just a little off his game there and he's ready to resume in good order now. Drawn well and can make an immediate impact. GOLD FLAKES (7) was tracking nicely before contesting the Placid Ark where she was well beaten. Back to this grade looks to suit and some gear changes can help. Can return to form now. BRAVE SHOT (2) will be better for the fresh effort and usually improves with racing. CLOSE TALKER (1) was no hope here last start and can bounce back today with Chris Parnham back in the saddle.

Race 5: OWN THE DREAM 2025 REGISTRATIONS OPEN HANDICAP (1650m)

PROPHET AND POWER (1) has been racing strongly this time in work without winning, just missing by 1.1L in Saturday company most recently. He maps for a lovely run once again and if he can hold his form today, he can get back to winning ways. IDEALLY (10) stormed home from well back to win as favourite at Geraldton in an eye-catching effort. She looks a progressive type and while this is tougher, she looks as though she'll make the grade. Can land a little closer today and land the knockout blow. CABLE ROCK (4) steps out to this trip for the first time today but he looks as though he'll run it out now. Stuck on well wide and without cover last start and should be right in the finish. DELTA ANNE (13) is ticking along nicely this time in work and wasn't far away as favourite last time out. Sure to be in the finish again. ROMMEL'S GODDESS (7) gets out to this trip for the first time now and it wouldn't surprise to see her go to the next level.

Race 6: MCA POLYTRACK HANDICAP (1300m)

EL PATRON (8) resumes today on the back of a winning trial at Lark Hill last month. He's been placed 2/4 fresh and he went to a new level at the end of last campaign. May need some luck from the draw, but should go close to winning if he can pick up where he left off. LINDEN'S GOLD (4) has been right around the mark in recent racing, closing off well over 1200m here last time out. He has placed at this track and trip previously and if he can run up to his recent form, he can make his presence felt. STARATING (9) comes into this off an 81-day break but has been kept up to the mark with a recent trial. She drops back to midweek company today and Pike rides from a nice alley. ZANGIEF (7) got the job done last time out at Bunbury and he should be about the finish if he runs to those figures. OUTFIELD (6) is better than he's shown his past couple and can bounce back to form.

Race 7: VALE PETER GANNON HANDICAP (1400m)

NICKELPLAY (9) won like a smart horse over 1200m first-up before good runs in the Burgess Queen and the Champion Fillies her past couple. Back slightly in trip today looks a smart move and while she has drawn wide, she has run well from the back previously. Can storm over the top and get the job done. THE KING'S UNCLE (3) gets the tongue tie on today after coming through a strong race at Belmont most recently over 1300m. Campbell takes 1.5kg off now and he maps for a lovely run. Can go up a level now third-up and put his best foot forward. CAPORETTO (5) got the job done in Maiden company last time out and can go on with the job with plenty of upside in his favour. Parnham sticks from a good alley and he's expected to take plenty of beating. FRAPPUCCINO (2) was strong from the front last time out and should take catching again. SWEET ADMIRATION (7) hasn't won for a long time but can go close out to 1400m now.
