Finishing Card did just enough to claim the Equiano John Dillon Stakes at Caulfield.
Finishing Card ($17) began well and settled in second place, enjoying a good trip behind the leader Limes.
He moved up outside that horse nearing the home turn, challenged strongly at the 300m and finished a bit too well, with his limit weight (54kg) to score by a half head.
The favourite Limes ($2.90) was quickly away and soon crossed from barrier eight to lead. He steadied the tempo mid-race (first 800m 48.68) and then battled gamely when challenged in the straight for a close second, conceding the winner 6kg.
Chase The Rainbow had a good run in fourth place, one out and one back. He moved up to challenge shortly after straightening and kept fighting on with his equal top-weight (60kg) for a solid third.
Reparations was third on the rails, had clear running along the rails in the straight and held on for fourth while Star Rolling ($4.50) was sixth on the rails most of the way to the turn, was under pressure from the 300m and just kept battling on to finish (three lengths) fifth.
