Angel Of Mercy burst through with a huge finish to win the Group 3 Lord Mayor's Cup at Doomben.

In a strongly run race the backmarkers came to the fore with Angel Of Mercy coming from third last on the fence, over 12 lengths from the leader Rollout The Carpet who was taken on in the lead by Carmora.

Angel Of Mercy was still fourth last and on the fence turning for home but she saved ground by staying to the fence and then coming between runners, bursting through a gap at the 200m and going a few lengths clear.

She actually ended up hitting the front a little early and idled a little when she got there only just having enough in hand to hold off Wistful who lunged late on the outside from well back.

Wistful came from seventh on the fence in the run. She was held up for a run on cornering and pushed out into the clear at the 300m, wide on the track. She made up many lengths late for a good second. A good effort and a little unlucky.

Her stablemate Cameo had a lovely run in the race fifth on the fence. She had clear running in the straight and battled on for third, a solid effort without ever looking the winner in the straight.
