Amorino was ridden quietly by Craig Williams back in last place, in the six-horse field, following a good tempo. He commenced his run on passing the 300m, challenged at the 100m and then finished a bit too well to score by a long neck.

Aeronautical was fifth on the rails, Douglas Whyte steered him between runners at the 200m to hit the lead at the 100m and was then only to be overtaken nearing the post for (long neck) second.

Gracious Prospect raced outside the leader (Hard Stride), challenged at the 300m and then fought on quite well for third, after seeming to have every chance.

Hard Stride led the field until the 200m and held on for (2 lengths) fourth while the favourite Akavoroun disappointed. He had a good trip in fourth place, made a short-lived bid at the 300m and then just battled on, racing well below his best, to finish (5 lengths) second last in the small six-horse field.
