Brazen Beau wins 2015 Lexus Newmarket Hcp Group 1 $1 Million at Flemington (VIC), 1200m.
Three-year-old colt Brazen Beau settled nicely behind the leader (Lord Of The Sky), following a steady early pace (first 600m 36.29). Joao Moreira switched him to the rails at the 400m and he sprinted clear shortly afterwards and was never threatened to score impressively from a high quality field by almost three lengths.
Chautauqua was ridden off the pace as usual and was back in seventh place, between runners. He angled into the clear at the 300m and made good late ground for second, putting up a very smart effort in the sprint home.
Terravista was fifth, in behind the leaders. He got into the clear and went to fourth at the 200m and then fought on well for third.
Lord Of The Sky led as expected but he slowed the early pace and then held on quite well for a good (3.6 lengths) fourth.
Aeronautical was back about eighth on the rails side, was blocked at the 150m and fought on well, without getting fully clear, running for (4.1 lengths) fifth.
Lankan Rupee was a handy fourth, being reserved for a late run, but he was suddenly under pressure with his top weight (58.5kg) from the 300m. He then battled on from that point and finished a disappointing (4.3 lengths) sixth.
