Risque wins 2016 Kevin Hayes Stakes Group 3 $150,000 at Caulfield (VIC) 3yoFillies, 1200m.
Risque, having her first run since winning the NZ Thousand Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) on 14 November, made an impressive Australian debut. She settled back in seventh place, between runners, was under riding at the home turn, switched out at the 200m and responded very well, late to grab a really smart win, appearing to score with something in hand. She will appreciate further and is obviously a classy filly.
Mossin' Around was fifth between runners, moved up well on passing the 300m, got to the front at the 100m but then found the late-closing winner too good and held on for a good second.
Cana was back in third place, one off the rails, following a solid pace. She challenged at the 200m and then battled on well for third, in a sound effort.
Weather The Storm settled in fifth place on the rails from her inside barrier (1), got along the rails to be third at the 200m and held on nicely for (2.4 lengths) fourth, putting up a promising effort for a maiden filly.
The Big Dance again showed her pace and after setting a solid tempo (first 600m 33.99), she tired from the 100m to finish (4.2 lengths) fifth.
