The favourite It's Somewhat had a good run in third place, following a reasonable pace (first 1400m 1:28.05). He moved up well coming to the home turn, took a narrow lead at the 300m but he then had to fight strongly to score a narrow but good win.

Messene went to the front, was challenged shortly after turning for home and then battled really well for a very good second, just finding the winner to bit too strong in the closing stages.

Sir John Hawkwood was a handy fourth, went to third at the 200m and battled well in the sprint home to hold that position to the post.

Ghost Protocol was second last in the eight-horse field to home turn and made late ground along the rails to grab fourth, without looking likely to trouble the placegetters.
