2016 Strickland Stakes Group 3 June 25 - Belmont Park

3 minute read

Ihtsahymn wins 2016 Strickland Stakes Group 3 $150,000 at Belmont Park (WA) 2yo+, 2000m.

Ihtsahymn, having his third run since returning to the Fred Kersley stable, returned to form with a good win here. He remained in last place in the seven-horse field to the 600m before improving (deep) nearing the home turn. He then put in a strong run in the centre of the track, took the lead at the 100m and then went on to score well in an impressive return to form.

Dubai Escapade was sixth on the rails, but was blocked on turning for home. He eased across heels and into clear running at the 200m and made very good late ground to take second.

Zarantz was a handy third to the home turn and battled well to hold the minor placing.

The short-priced favourite Wink And A Nod disappointed. She raced outside the leader (Gris Caro) but was under pressure at the home turn and raced well below her best in the Soft6 conditions to finish (2.5 lengths) fifth.
