Veranillo wins 2017 Lonhro Plate Listed $125,000 at Randwick (NSW) 2yo, 1100m.
The Godolphin-raced colt Veranillo is now unbeaten in two starts after resuming here with another good win. He settled nicely behind the leader (Eden Roc) before moving up well at the 300m. He seemed to be under pressure at the 200m but soon lifted to take the lead at the 100m before going on to score a very promising first up win. He looks likely to be improved by the run and is the makings of a very smart colt.
Exceeds was ridden quietly again and settled in last place in the six-horse field. She switched between runners on straightening, put in a good run from the 200m and kept running in good style for a very good second.
Eden Roc went to the front and then ran along at a solid tempo, racing a bit keenly. He was headed at the 200m and held on quite well for third. It was only his second start and he should keep improving with race experience.
Lightz was third on the rails, was held up at the 300m and ran on again quite well in the later stages for (2.8 lengths) fourth while the well-supported Cuba had a good trip in fourth place, looked a threat at the 200m but wilted on that bid to finish (3.1 lengths) fifth. He was racing on debut and should be improved by the run.
