Scoring back to back Guineas and racing in the colours of Waikato Stud, Residential scored a commanding win here. From barrier six apprentice rider Goson Jogoo wasted no time and put her into the race early, leading then taking a trail at the 1200m. Giving the leader a couple of lengths down the back and to the 600m she then cruised up on the inner and took a clear lead at the 400m. Approaching the last corner she had the field in trouble and into the straight cleared out and gave nothing else a chance, continuing to draw away to score impressively by four lengths.

Starvoia tracked the winner in third to the home straight and was a clear second all the way to the line but was no match.

There was an ever wider margin to third placed Dezzies Delight who was third turning in and battled away best of the rest for a distant third.

The tight Ascot Park rhomboidal track was massively biased towards on pacers all day with no winner coming from further back that fifth across the top. This Listed 3yo mile saw Residential remove that hit and miss pattern in her formline and show some consistency with a bolt in performance. The filly sat second chasing a tearaway leader that ran wayward and off the track across the top so she went through and grabbed the lead 500m out. She powered away to score by four lengths in 1:36.64 and record her fourth win in ten starts and notably her first back-to-back successes. All her wins have come as 3yo but also some inexplicable flops but that looks behind her now able to sit close and surge. The time was the equal fastest for the day alongside the Benchmark 85 contested just before this and that augurs well for the strength of this filly at the mile and that she should run middle distance without any bother at all. Her stablemate Starvoia against finished runner up and looks a sprinter-miler only and as the distances have risen she has not been able to handle Residential that keeps getting stronger. Dezzies Delight was a massively distant third and is a speedy sprinter so her Listed third was by default almost as something had to get it. Supatwista just out of maidens was a distant fourth while Little Miss whacked away for fifth but was almost a length behind her. Raise You Ten was dreadful after settling down last and plugged past a few stoppers but was beaten almost seventeen lengths. Bettors can be forgiven for scratching their heads but three runs ago he beat Residential home by eight lengths and today has since lost twenty-five lengths, which is ridiculous. Just last start he was fourth too her and beaten three lengths so it explains why South Island racing struggles for turnover as most North Island bettors will not touch it with a barge pole. Dontpokethetiger led and ran off across the top both under pressure and waywardly. She may need a stronger rider as the filly has some ability but clearly a mind of her own too. This race had no depth of note and the winner Residential will keep beating these for the remainder of the season. Starvoia the stablemate was four lengths behind at the line but tellingly was five and a half lengths ahead of the third finisher. This quinella could happen again and again should they continue to clash. The four males in the race filled the last four spots over the line and were shellacked and brutally exposed by the females.
