2017 N Z Bloodstock Warstep Stks Listed April 22 - Riccarton Park

3 minute read

Nikita wins 2017 N Z Bloodstock Warstep Stks Listed NZ $500,00 at Riccarton Park (NZ), 2000m.

Nikita was a handy third down the back straight and was given a nice run by rider Samantha Collett, one off the fence. They moved out three wide at the 800m and found themselves five wide turning in but travelling well. At the 250m they were chasing the breakaway leader but inside the 150m they ground away to edge into the lead and outstay the field, her second win.

Tuilana was third last at the 800m, improved soon after and tracked the winner into the straight. She ran doggedly to claim second late but the winner seemed to have her covered.

Favourite Showemup was second to the 600m, took over and led into the straight, broke clear and looked the winner but was passed late by the first two.

This was a very weak Listed 3yo filly 2000m event that is stamina suspect too. Nikita won this by a neck after two weeks ago finishing fourth here in a Listed 3yo filly mile beaten over seven and a half lengths. Clearly the fortnight and extra 400m helped as she beat home rivals today by big margins that had beaten her very easily prior. She sat third the inner and then worked off across the top and moved up second turning for home before hitting the lead at the 100m and then holding on by a neck in 2:09.97, then slowest time of the day of four races at the 2000m. It was her second win in eleven outings and first success at blacktype. Tuilana ran home solidly for second and at her first blacktype attempt too it should be noted. Showemup ran a game third after surprisingly being pestered for the lead on her outer by the stablemate that was paying $57. She slipped away early the run home only to be hauled in and passed at the 100m then losing second at the 25m. The next runner home was a maiden and five lengths away in Red River Rock that ran home like a grinder. Grand Soleil the favourite was a weak fifth beaten over seven lengths and when you consider at the start before she beat home the winner today by almost seven lengths, the form swing is massive. She is a maiden and had a poor recovery rate post race so will spell now and come back a surefire winner next season. Gloss just out of maidens was also one-batting the run home while the rest got beaten by eleven lengths to twenty lengths.
