From barrier eight Twoznotenough took a 100m to gain the lead but found the rail with a 1000m to run. Rider Leah Hemi sat quietly and the pair still led at the 450m, waiting for the challenges. At the 300m Hemi gave a couple of slaps and they shot clear, holding a two length advantage inside the 200m, which was enough to keep the chasers at bay, holding on by three quarters of a length at the post.

Maybe Miami lay fourth (rails) at the top of the straight, moved out a width at the 300m and ran on without looking like overhauling the winner.

Meursault was last turning in, was widest down the straight and flew into third late to grab third from Ringo, who had every chance, losing third in the last stride for a battling fourth.

Speight's Great Easter Stakes (LR)

WT: 53kg Type: OPEN

This Listed 1400m Open Handicap saw a former North Island trained mare in Twoznotenough remain unbeaten in the South Island since changing yards. The 6yo mare had won at Riverton against her own sex earlier in April and then today versus all comers scored on the minimum of 53kg by three-quarters of a length in 1:26.81. She led up and never looked like getting headed to record her seventh win in twenty-nine starts in what was her second attempt at blacktype. Twoznotenough has finished fourth at G3 on her former home track of New Plymouth four runs ago over 1800m when beaten just over a length. Six of her seven career wins have come at 1300m-1400m. Maybe Miami chased in vain for second under topweight of 60kg having prior gone his first ordinary race for the year. Meursault ran on well for third from last on settling albeit beaten over five lengths. Ringo the favourite finished fourth beaten five and a half lengths but the effort was much better than it sounds as he was wide throughout in the open carrying 59kg. It always looks bad when a runner is caught wide fourth then third in the open in such a small field and Ringo was no exception and he surely would have been in the money but for the overlander. The rest were ordinary the run home in what was not a strong field overall.
