Favourite Ability was too good, racing away to score his sixth win from 15 starts including his last three in succession. Ridden a treat by Dwayne Dunn, he had the perfect cover from the barriers. Once the field settled Dunn sat patiently in fourth over the crossing and up to the 250m, found a gap and sprinted to the lead, then gave nothing else a chance over the last 100m for a clear win by a length.

Duke Of Brunswick settled back, was fourth last at the crossing, moved out then switched back towards the inside and finished well between runners but was never going to catch the winner, for a strong second.

Ruettiger sat outside the leader to the 250m, seemed flat at that point then came again to grab third just short of the post from Rough Justice, who led to the 250m then held on quite well for fourth.
