Previously stakes placed in Brisbane and a three-time Sydney winner, Untamed Diamond grabbed the lead late to claim her maiden stakes win and seventh in total. She was first away from the inside draw but soon after settled third (rails) starting the bend.

Rider Trudy Thornton sat quietly until they straightened but waited until the 200m to throw out their challenge, drove through on the inside to co-lead at the 100m then stretched her neck just short of the post for a nice win.

Speech Craft tracked the winner to the top of the straight, moved out four wide when they fanned then kept up a strong run to the line for a good second from Ferrando, who led turning in, looked to break clear at the 200m but was collared late for a well fought third. Chambord was doing his best work at the finish for a solid fourth.

WT: 54kg Type: OPEN

This Listed 1200m Open Handicap saw Untamed Diamond trail on the inner and then work off early the run home. The 5yo Australian bred mare then came with a sustained surge to lead at the 50m and win by a short neck in 1:10.09. It was her seventh win in twenty-three starts and she was second up having come home from Australia where she won three times in Sydney in the lower grades. Today was her first blacktype result achieved and it turned out to be a win too showing the gulf in depth between Australian and New Zealand regards Group and Listed attainability. Speech Craft, a fresh up 9yo and also Australian bred, ran on well for second while Ferrando was a game third after sitting outside the pace and taklng the lead 350m from home. Chambord ran on well after being last away and was beaten less then threequarters of a length. His stablemate Heroic Valour ran on after settling back and looks a next upper. Irish Moon had every chance while Salamanca was average and the rest poor though Ruud Not Too was getting going the very last little bit. The time of 1:10.09 was about three lengths superior to the following race, a Ratings 75 (three to four grades inferior) won well by Elusive Treasure, an Australian bred, that sat wide the whole way. It augurs well for him and the runner up and the pacemaking 4yo mare I Am Poppy, also Australian bred, plus the third finisher Belle Gioia, a 4yo mare too. Some notable form should come out of this Untamed Diamond race with apart from her, Heroic Valour, Ferrando and Ruud Not Too the other likely victors.
