3 minute read

Positioning on the speed was a big advantage. Training honours were evenly shared. Apprentice Coriah Keatings booted home two winners. Apprentice riders won five of the six races.

Race 1 1080m Mdn

Debutant SPINELESS $10 went close in a trial here and converted that into a narrow win. PUSHALOT (5) led and was narrowly beaten at Queanbeyan on debut and built on that beaten a whisker. Debutant CAPTAIN NAY $2F trialled behind Spineless but was best fancied from market opening. He placed third beaten 2.6L with LEGRIS $5.50 close-up next. A trio wanted to lead with Pushalot prevailing on the rail and Spineless on his outside. Captain Nay took a sit behind them and was three-wide on the turn. He had to be restrained in the early middle stages. The first two home engaged in a ding-dong battle down the straight with Spineless just getting the upper hand. They were just too quick from the rest. A tough win.

Race 2 1080m Bm50

PAPAVER MINER $4.80 has placed behind Champagne In Lace here two starts prior and turned the table on that galloper defeating LOVE OF AIR $12 by a half-length with a further half-length back to CHAMPAGNE IN LACE $1.70F. WHITE LIAR $8 was close next and they spaced the remainder. Paver Miner was a pronounced firmer. It was a charge early with five jockeys keen to lead. Champagne In Lace prevailed off a low gate and White Liar pressured outside him. Papaver Mine secured a soft sit behind the leader, followed by Love Of Air. This was the order as they peeled for home and at the 50m marker they were four abreast. Papaver Minor kept coming and found a margin from Love Of Air who squeezed through on his inside. Papaver Miner had the weights in his favour and that may have proved the difference.

Race 3 1750 CL1

Nick Olive-trained ONEFORIAN $1.55F looked the best of the day and was 2L too good. He beat KANOOZI $15 who has posted a solid figure winning a Queanbeyan Maiden. She held off MONTE DE SNOW $26 and WITNESS TO LOVE $26 in a close go for the minor spoils. The second favourite ARTIST $4.80 was well-beaten. OneforIan found a perfect rail behind the leading pair and worked out to be four-wide on turning. He showed a sharp turn of foot at the 300m to find a clear lead. Kanoozi looked a danger at the 200m despite wanting to lay in. He was last at the 600 and then commenced a big run out wide. He was well-held on the line, but it was an impressive effort. Good efforts two by the next pair home. OneforIan had a class edge and got the job done in tidy fashion.

Race 4 1280 Bm58

SIOVY DANE $1.55F was expected to be much too after blitzing a CL1 field here by 8L but found FERRARI GIRL$19 2L too good on the day. MISSILE MAIDEN $13 was 2.8L from the winner in third, with the remainder well beaten. Again, it was a keen go early with Ferrari Girl finding the front. She was 2L clear passing the 80m with Siovy Dane leading the chase. Ferrari Girl had extended her lead at the 250m and try as she might the hot favourite couldn't peg her back. Missile Maiden came from well back and hit the line well in third. On a track favouring the speed, Ferrari Girl was simply far too nippy.

Race 5 1206m Bm75 – Federal

GET SHAFTED $3.60 was a well-supported second favourite and beat STARLIV $8 by a head. DELIGHTFUL DREAM $17 found third, 2.6L from the winner with the remainder well beaten. Starliv found the lead pressured by the fourth-placed CAMERLINGO $31. Delightful Dream found a nice posy behind this pair. The winner Get Shafted settled last and had plenty to do as they headed for home. Starliv found a 2L margin at the 200m over the closing Delightful Dream, but further out Get Shafted was putting in giant and prevailed right on the line. He wanted to run about a bit in the straight but given the way the track was playing; he couldn't have been more impressive. Starliv drifted out noticeably in the run home and that may have cost her. Regardless, all honours with the winner. The favourite CHASING A QUID $2.50 railed and looked to be coming into it passing the 300m, but he only battled after that.

Race 6 1280m Mdn

The hot favourite OH WHAT A KNIGHT $2.05 was beaten a whisker behind his long-shot stablemate SHERMAN $26. SHOW SECRETS $16 finished 1L from the winner in third, with RUSSIAN ROSE $8.50 a further length adrift. The clear second favourite Villach missed the jump and settled last and that cost. ENAMENT led and the field was largely bunched behind in a messy pattern. Oh What a Knight raced three-wide with Sherman further back, also well off the rail. There was a line of five as they turned for home with a sixth runner coming into it. Oh What A Knight found the lead at the 150m from Show Secrets on his inside. Sherman looked no hope at that point but came two-to-one late to get up by a nose.  He'd been spaced prior here off a six-week freshen but had some specking. He was having his twenty-sixth start, and the stable's perseverance was rewarded. Not much between most of these.
