STRATHTAY

RANDWICK July 6

Heavy 8; Rail - Out 3m

Best Bets

RACE 2 (2) UNTIL VALHALLA: Ciaron Maher has this race well covered with his pair of last start winners. Have to favour this more seasoned filly coming off her resounding higher class Kensington win over this distance when she ran away from two subsequent winners in the heavy ground. Set to repeat as she stays on the same weight in the same class under the same conditions but be sure to save on the safe quinella with her stablemate (5) LADY BOSS.

RACE 5 (7) STRATHTAY: This lightly raced former Kiwi 4YO made impressive improvement in his second Sydney start for Chris Waller to post one of the best restricted wins of the winter over 2000m at Rosehill on June 1. Revelled in the heavy conditions to record excellent closing sectionals, his 3.5 lengths margin confirmation that he could be a superior wet tracker as he recorded both his NZ wins over 1600m on soft tracks. Can't seem him regressing despite a 3kg rise in weight.

RACE 10 (10) PURE ALPHA: Promising 3YO has made a strong impression in just four starts to date, all on affected tracks. His last start Kensington win over 1400m in heavy going when he was doing his best work through the line stamped him as a quality improver destined to win better races. Well placed to take another step with 2kg less.

SUNSHINE COAST July 6

Heavy 9; Rail True

Best Bets

RACE 5: (1) BRUDENELL - Talented sprinter has solid G1 form, performs fresh and recent trial was a nice warm up. Well placed in this field despite topweight.

RACE 9: (13) TERMAGANT-– Has started his career in strong form with two wins from three starts on affected tracks both victories coming over this course and distance. Impressive last time and should continue his upward spiral with the benefit of a claim for promising apprentice.

For Value

RACE 4: (7) HAKKAI MARU - Freshened for this as she loves the course and distance. Impressed in her recent trial.

RACE 6: (9) MISS ARIA - Well placed under the set weights conditions. She can charge late on this big track.

TRIAL POINTERS

RANDWICK June 28: LAVISH EMPIRE, having his first trial since his trip to Rockhampton in April to finish second The Archer, is set to blossom next season after running away with his 1050m heart by more than three lengths in good time for the session (63.97; 34.61). The feature was his strong work as he lengthened over the last 150m. XIDAKI's race fitness was evident as he was given a good test to win the fastest heat over 1050m with fast closing sectionals (63.43; 34.55). A fast open heat over 738m featured an impressive second from ZARAGOZA, a former Godolphin runner having his first outing for his new trainers Rob and Luke Price.

NEWCASTLE June 28: Good trials from a couple of well known sprinters. White charger MUCH MUCH BETTER is going to make a lovely show horse or mount for the clerk of the course at the end of his racing days but folr now he is going well enough to pick up a winter sprint after winning the fastest heat over 1000m (60.39). He found the line with enthusiasm after sitting off the leader and his time was more than two seconds quicker than the other 1000m heats. The classy BRUDENELL followed up a recent trial win at Scone with a soft third in his 800m heat, having an easy time of it before running strongly through the line. Hard to beat fresh in the right sprint.

ROSEHILL June 21: The 900m heat winner BRAVE ONE (56.48; 35.54) has good prospects.

WARWICK FARM June 17: A strong piece of work from progressive 4YO CONTEMPORARY to finish third in his fast 789m heat (46.77; 33.86) in his first trial since he won at the Hawkesbury Cup meeting. He's already the winner of four races and the manner of his work to finish off under a strong hold has him primed to add to that record.

WYONG June 19: The unraced FERINZO was a sharp 2YO heat winner over 845m in good time (51.36; 35.00).
