Daughter of Redoute’s Choice hails from one of the famous families in Australian stud book

One of the best bred horses to win on the weekend was the Chirs Waller-trained The Elanora (Redoute’s Choice), who hails from one of the very best families in the Australian stud book and he added further depth to his pedigree when he landed the JC Spring Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m) at Hawkesbury. 

Bred and raced by John Singleton’s Strawberry Hill Stud, the colt is stoutly bred on his dam side, with the pedigree littered by Oaks and Derby winners. 

The Elanora is one of two winners out of winning More Than Ready (Southern Halo) mare Yesterjoy, who is herself a daughter of multiple Group 1-winning champion Tuesday Joy (Carnegie). 

Tuesday Joy won seven races in total headed by victories in the 2007 Coolmore Classic (Gr 1, 1500m), the 2008 editions of the Ranvet Stakes (Gr 1, 1990m) and BMW Stakes (Gr 1, 2400m), while she also won the Chipping Norton Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) in 2009. 

Tuesday Joy failed to reach the same heights as a broodmare that she did on the track, with her six winners headed by multiple stakes-placed Girl Tuesday (Street Cry). 

Tuesday Joy herself is out of 1995 Queensland Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Joie Denise (Danehill), whose six winners are headed by 2003 Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Sunday Joy (Sunday Silence), who in turn produced More Joyous (More Than Ready). 

More Joyous boasts an incredible record on the race-track winning 21 races headed by eight victories at Group 1 level and her three foals to race have all been winners. 

Joie Denise also produced stakes placed winner Joie (Geiger Counter), who is herself the grandam of Don’t Doubt Mamma (Not A Single Doubt), who won the 2016 runnings of the Let’s Elope Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) and Stock Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) and 2013 Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (Listed, 1000m) winner Risen From Doubt (Not A Single Doubt). 

Meanwhile, Sunday Joy is also the dam of two-time winner Deedra (Zabeel), whose daughter Fenway (High Chaparral) took out the 2015 Vinery Stud Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m), while her half-brother War (More Than Ready) landed the Up And Coming Stakes (Gr 3, 1300m). 

Joie Denise herself is out of a fellow champion multiple Group 1-winning mare Denise’s Joy (Seventh Hussar), whose 13 victories were spearheaded by four victories at top-flight wins and she produced three winners. 

One of her daughters, Clifton Gardens (Mighty Kingdom), produced 1992 Mona Nursery Stakes (Listed, 1000m) winner Miss Minden (Bellotto) and proved to be a good producer of top-class stayers. Her winning progeny is headed by Miss Danehill (Danehill), who took out the 1999 Queensland Derby (Gr 1, 2400m). 

She also produced Group 2 winner Pentastic (Pentire), who was very unlucky not to win at the Group 1 level having been placed in elite company on seven occasions. 

Another of Denise’s Joy’s daughters Joie de Vivre (Vain) was more known as a producer of speed, being the dam of Joie De Grise (Kenmare) a dual winner of the South African Fillies Sprint Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m), which helped her be crowned champion 3YO female sprinter and older female sprinter in South Africa in 1997-98 and 1998-99 and she also produced a top-class sprinter in Australia, with Arlington Road (Danehill) winning the 2003 All Aged Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m). 

Joy and Fun (Showdown) - another of Denise Joy’s daughters, produced 1994 Champagne Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Euphoria (Marauding) and she is the grandam Secret Agenda (Not A Single Doubt), whose seven wins are headed by a victory in the 2017 Robert Sangster Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m). 

The victory provided the late breed-shaping sire Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) with his 176th stakes winner and later on in the afternoon Celebrity Queen also provided the son of Danehill (Danzig) with his 177th stakes winner when she took out the Colonel Reeves Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) and interestingly she is, like The Elanora, is out of daughter of Vinery Stud’s former shutter More Than Ready (Southern Halo), with three other stakes winners bred on that cross with the pair, joining Dark Choice, Thyme For Roses and Very Tempting. 

More Than Ready - who shuttled to Australia for 19 seasons, but did not return to the Hunter Valley in 2020 - is carving an impressive record out as a broodmare sire, with 106 stakes winners being produced by his daughters. 

In Australia alone he is the broodmare sire of 36 stakes winners and his success is largely due to his capability of producing stakes horses when his daughters are mated to sons of Danehill, with 20 of those stakes winners by sons of Danehill, including three of his four Group 1 winners; Bivouac (Exceed And Excel), Miracles Of Life (Not A Single Doubt) and Rebel Dane (California Dane).
