A son of leading premiership-leading stallion the first $500k lot at National Weanling Sale

National Weanling Sale shoppers got an early indication of how tough the competition is going to be at Magic Millions this week when a son of So You Think sold for $525,000 less than an hour into Day 1.

Justin Bahen had the brown colt, who is out of the Redoute's Choice mare Salina, knocked down to him on behalf of an unnamed client.

Bahen nominated him as the 'colt of the sale' and said the price tag was indicative of the competition there will be on the 320 weanlings who will go through the ring across Thursday and Friday.

"It's a small catalogue here so there's a lot of people looking at the same stuff," Bahen said.

"That was the colt of the sale in my opinion. The stallion's doing a super job and he's the first foal out of a Redoute's Choice mare, so there was a fair bit to like about him.

"It was fairly easy one to go a little bit extra on, especially when it's a nice colt like he is."

The So You Think colt is the first foal from Salina, a daughter of Street Cry mare Quayside, whose dam Quays was a dual Group 1 Oaks placegetter who also won the G2 Wakeful Stakes.

The sale was an outstanding result for Telemon Thoroughbreds, which purchased Salina while carrying the So You Think colt for $300,000 at last year's National Broodmare Sale.

Bahen said there was a strong chance the colt would be seen a yearling sale next year but the new owner would be just as happy to race the colt.

"I think the client wants to put him back through and see how he goes," he said.

"If there's a profit in him, he'll turn him over, but if there's not he'll just race him."
