Americain (Dynaformer), winner of the 2010 Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m), has been euthanised after suffering a broken leg in a paddock accident. He was 17.

The son of Dynaformer (Roberto) won 11 of his 34 career starts and almost $6 million in prize money. Originally trained in France by Andre Fabre he transferred to the US and the stable of Todd Pletcher before returning to France and joining Alain de Royer Dupre for whom he won the Melbourne Cup by almost three lengths.

Americain was retired to Swettenham Stud, covering a book of 155 mares during his first season in Australia in 2013. He later relocated to Daisy Hill and to date has sired 172 winners including the Group winning pair Causeforcommotion and Eperdument as well as five further stakes performers.
