Santa Anita's festival season has been sidelined by the Los Angeles fires.
While the area itself has not been affected by the fires, air quality caused the postponement of two big racing cards and who knows about the races to come if the winds turn nasty.
So Santa Anita decided to open one of their carparks as a donation centre after the original center had to move from Pasadena and it has become an enormous place with truckloads of free products flooding in as well as volunteers from far and wide who are helping with cooking meals and handling the distribution of clothing and supplies.
On the horse side there is news that Cody's Wish has his first son on the ground when Hotshot Anna delivered the colt on 6th January, which is many countries is celebrated as the day when the Magi brought gifts to the baby Jesus. All report are that mother and son are thriving.
