Amico Mio a friend indeed in Qatar

3 minute read

The HH Heir Apparent Trophy is G1 in Qatar and this year's version attracted a big field of 16 runners.

This year it was the turn of Amico Mio with David Badel in the irons, who at the 200m mark asked his horse to go and got a positive response. Trained by Yousef Bentahar, Amico Mio was able to take advantage of the set weights for this race where he had been not so advantaged in his past couple of runs. Dubawi King tried to run him down but couldn't make it, and Olivier Peslier's mount Lancelot to third prize. The field had been led for much of the race by Recital, a 6th in the Epsom Derby, but he was unable to get the 2200m trip and finished at the wrong end of the field.
