Not expected to win over her stablemate Maybe, Homecoming Queen at 25/1 burst out of the gates and led from there to finish.
There was a tragic accident prior to the start when Gray Pearl went down in the gates and suffered a spinal cord injury and was subsequently euthanised. The start was delayed because of this but it is difficult to say if this delay affected any of the fillies.
Homecoming Queen 25/1 not only led she increased her distance from the others to finish 9 lengths ahead, one of the biggest margins ever in the race. She was one of the most experienced runners in the field and had Ryan Moore on board and was able to cope with the conditions.
Stablemate Maybe was not disgraced in third but the tough conditions found out a few who were perhaps a bit undercooked for this race.
John Gosden got second with Starscope at 33/1 and fourth with The Fuge on 22/1. Fifth La Collina was 25/1 so anyone who got the multiples would have done very nicely indeed.
Homecoming Queen has now shortened a lot for the Oaks, and it would seem the trip would be no problem for her. She obviously is a very strong filly and has a nice turn of foot to go with it.
The Dahlia was another Gosden/ Buick winner with Izzi Top winning fro Captivator and Primavere. Dettori said after that the Godolphin runner Kawlah had lost her action.
