Champagne Cath held on gamely to win the Reginald Allen at Rosehill.
Champagne Cath began quickly from her wide barrier (9) and went immediately to the lead.
She then steadied the pace (first 800m 50.16) before increasing the speed approaching the turn. She then fought back gamely, holding on for a good half length win, sprinting home her final 600m in 34.63.
More Than Faith had a good trip in fourth place, one out and one back. She moved up nicely (three wide) at the home turn, challenged at the 200m and kept fighting on for a sound second, beaten half length.
She’s Bella was third on the rails to the turn and battled on well in the straight for good third, although she did appear to have every chance.
Kirramosa was eighth to the 600m, was hard ridden from that point as the tempo increased, but finished well in the closing stages for a good fourth after being disadvantaged by the moderate early pace.
The favourite Shahad ($4.75) missed the start badly and was near last to the turn before making some ground in the sprint home to finish eighth, without ever looking a threat.
