Spirit's Dance was too good in the Kevin Hayes Stakes, playing her part in a big day for Peter Moody.
The Peter Moody-trained filly Spirits Dance has now won four of her nine starts, the latest three in succession.
She settled in a good spot, fourth on the rails from her inside barrier (1). She got a clear run to challenge at the 200m, got to a narrow lead at the 100m and fought gamely to score in a photo finish.
Marianne settled at the tail of the 11-horse field. She improved between runners passing the 600m, got a split half way down the straight and kept running on gamely for a close second, putting up a good first-up effort.
Patricia Dawn settled just past midfield but enjoyed a good trip on the rails from barrier two. She was held-up in the early part on the straight before making ground to take third, also going well on resuming.
Bound For Earth ($3.50 joint fav) was about sixth, wide with cover, before switching out to challenge rounding the home turn. She put in a good run at the 100m and kept battling on to take a sound fourth, beaten three lengths.
The Bart & James Cummings-trained filly Shamalia ($3.50) went straight to the front and led the field until the final 100m before weakening for (three lengths) fifth.
