Alpha Beat was too good in the Listed Adelaide Guineas.
Alpha Beat was ridden quietly by Damien Oliver and settled back about tenth, one off the rails.
He was giving the leader about eight lengths as he commenced a run on passing the 600m. He moved up nicely (wide out) rounding the home turn and went to third at the 200m. He then came with a determined finish to score a good win, by a head at the post.
Lady Lakshmi showed really good pace from her outside barrier (15) to take the early lead. She eased to race in second place, before moving up approaching the turn. She went to the front at the 200m and was only caught in the last few strides for a gallant second.
Tikitour had a good trip, about sixth one off the rails. He was under riding on straightening but then kept battling on to take third, beaten three lengths.
I Am Titanium was near the tail of the field most of the way and was under pressure nearing the home turn. But he kept making ground in the straight and did quite well for (3.5 lengths) fourth, looking suited to further.
The favourite Tango’s Daughter was about ninth between runners. She was under pressure from the 600m and then battled on for (4.8 lengths) seventh, albeit after being blocked in the latter stages.
