Shooting To Win wins 2014 Beck Caulfield Guineas Group 1 $100,0000 at Caulfield (VIC) 3yo, 1600m.
Shooting To Win began well and then eased to settle in sixth place between runners. He improved wide with cover from the 700m, switched deep rounding the home turn and then put in good run to challenge at the 200m. He got to the front on passing the 100m and finished a bit too well to score by a neck, putting up a smart performance.
The favourite Rich Enuff worked from his wide barrier to find the lead and then raced a bit keenly in front. He fought back well when challenged at the 200m and failed by only a neck, putting up a game effort.
Wandjina was second last in the 13-horse field to the turn. He got a split rounding the home turn, going to sixth at the 200m. He then kept running on quite well to take third nearing the post.
Kumaon was ninth between runners, got though rounding the home turn to be fifth at the 200m and then fought on nicely for a good fourth (1.4 lengths).
Chivalry was last to the turn, went wide on straightening and made ground without threatening for fifth (3.4 lengths).
Merion was near last to the 600m, veered to the extreme outside at the home turn and battled on quite well for sixth (3.7 lengths) putting up quite a good effort under the circumstances.
Almalad was wide early from his outside barrier (13) Almalad was wide early from his outside barrier (13) and settled outside the leader but he disappointed in the straight, weakening for eighth (6.7 lengths).
Looks Like The Cat (11th) was trapped three wide without cover most of the way and had excuses in tiring after a hard run.
