Amicus wins 2014 Schweppes Thousand Guineas Group 1 $500,000 at Caulfield (VIC) 3yo Fillies, 1600m.
Amicus began smartly from barrier nine and crossed to settle in second place, behind a moderate tempo (first 1000m
61.25). She moved up at the turn, got to the front at the 100m and went on to win quite well by three quarters of a length after enjoying a good trip.Traveston Girl soon led and travelled along well at a reasonable pace and then fought back when challenged in the
straight for a good second.Sabatini settled well in fourth place on the rails, looked a threat when she challenged at the 200m and then battled on for a sound third.
Bring Me The Maid was more handily placed racing in blinkers for the first time travelling in sixth place, one off the rails. She moved up rounding the home turn, put in a run at the 200m and the fought on for fourth, beaten a length.
Tahni Dancer was near last on the rails in the ten-horse field to the turn, she switched across heels on straightening and fought on well for a sound fifth, beaten two lengths.
Go Jennio was seventh, one off the rails, went wide on turning for home and made ground for sixth beaten two and a quarter lengths.
Go Indy Go was second last at the turn, went deep on turning for home and made some ground in the sprint home for seventh (3.3 lengths).
While the favourite Lumosty was last at the turn, switched wide on passing the 300m and also made up ground without threatening for eighth (3.4 lengths).
Afleet Esprit was sixth on the rails, got an inside run from the home turn but failed to run on, finishing ninth (4.2 lengths).
