Despite being out of his grade, Wolfwhistle was the public elect and duly obliged. Following an economical trip from barrier one, Wolfwhistle weaved a passage from fifth before switching back to the rail for a run at the 200m and extended nicely to win well.

Working on to lead at the 1600m, Esprit D’Or did a good job in front and fought courageously for second after being collared at the 200m.

Given a nice trip in fifth on the inner, Dickens angled off the rail at the 600m and unimpeded he ran home strongly for third.

She’s Insatiable was ridden quietly in second last position and after shouldering her way into the clear entering the straight she ran on nicely for fourth.

Wolfwhistle showed he could be swerved up the home straight and still produce a powerful finish when winning this Listed event. The 4yo out of the G1 winner Legs like his mum enjoyed the middle distance and he is now two-from-two at 2000m. He could be a summer Cups type but the key fact at the moment is he has only won left-handed so that takes out a chunk of opportunities. It is not that he is no good clockwise but did hang when finishing sixth at his only try right-handed so far. A lot more is in store for Wolfwhistle if he stays healthy and he may even target WFA next year at home. The winning time of 2:03.40 was nothing out of the ordinary and with the rail out varying large amounts times are somewhat irrelevant if the correct measure procedure has not been used. Esprit D’or was his usual rugged self the run home proving hard to get past and Dickens rarely runs a poor race here. She’s Insatiable was big from the back for fourth and can run a blinder but then a shocker too. The next upper is Darci Coup with a sixth that said he is very close to paying a dividend again. Not a strong field at all for Listed class and bar the winner there is no other scope from the field.
