From an awkward draw, Anniesstar negotiated a path to find a nice position three back on the rail. In a race run at even tempo, Anniesstar improved to take up the vacated trailing spot rounding the home bend and pinching through against the fence she quickened sufficiently to score narrowly.

Second placed Little Alfie Brown almost made it back-to-back wins in the race when fighting doggedly after leading throughout. Having received a perfect trail, Mungo Jerry popped off the fence to challenge on straightening and kept giving resolutely for third.

Gwynethanne stuck well for a close fourth after being used early in the race to arrive outside the leader at the 1400m, and Fredrick William was encouraging in the strength of his finish from third last to claim fifth.
