Another to capitalize on the luxury of drawing barrier one, Sports Illustrated received a gun passage behind the leader. Peeling off at an ideal time on straightening for the run home, Sports Illustrated quickened to a healthy advantage at the 200m and proceeded to race clear.

From barrier two, Atacama tracked the winner throughout and while trying valiantly she was unable to bridge the gap.

Last out of the gates, before recovering to follow Atacama on the rail, Soriano was across heels into the clear at the 250m and rounded off strongly for third.

Following Soriano in the run, Abidewithme took awhile to balance up in the straight but once into her work she bounded home late for fourth.

The leader, Shandream, did well to hold on for fifth, ahead of Kisses, and Postmans Daughter, who went through the line nicely for sixth and seventh respectively.

Cal Isuzu Stakes (G2)

Sex: FM Type: OPEN

Sports Illustrated was the cover-girl today at Te Rapa with a dominant win at G2 under WFA against her own sex in slick time. The mare sat posed third on the inner and her rider Opie Bosson had such a handful near the home turn he pushed a rival out of the way to get one-off turning in then pushed the go button. The 4yo mare powered clear to win by a couple of lengths and clocked 1:33.54, which is a good time but must be tempered with the bionic clockings all day at a massively manmade biased Te Rapa. It was her fourth win in ten starts and she handled the step up to WFA against her own sex and carried 57kg with ease. She has clearly come back more furnished and the only defeat this time in was behind Tomorrowland, which won the Listed race prior here in bionic time, so the formlines stack up. The connections of Sports Illustrated may now considered WFA versus all comers sooner rather than later as she already holds a nomination for the G1 Thorndon Mile at Trentham on January 24 next year. No excuses the rest bar the overriding fact that Te Rapa today had an absurd manmade bias towards on pacers and the inner. Atacama ran a good race for second after getting a soft fence trip, while Soriano ran on well but had to improve the inside midrace from the back then get closer turning for home. The biggest late run as usual was Abidewithme, which is the either the worst ridden or unluckiest or in fact both this season. She has been dreadfully ridden tactically but gone massive and did so here with a late closing fourth between runners. Shandream set the solid clip and was swamped late into fifth even though still third at the 100m. The rest were either too far back or wide or their respective riders made the obvious mistake of angling wide turning for home when that was non-earner all day. The sire Fast ‘N’ Famous has provided this mare and Tomorrowland today as stakes winners easily in slick time and Waikato Stud will be wondering why they let him go. He now stands in Australia at Jindera Park near Albury in New South Wales for trainer now stud master Bret Cavanough, who purchased the stallion earlier this year.
