Danas Best soon went to the lead and settled nicely in front, running along at a reasonable tempo. He was travelling strongly nearing the 600m, grabbed a good break on passing the 300m and went on to score easily by just over four lengths in a solid staying effort.

The top weight (59kg) Permit raced in third place most of the way to the 600m. He moved up rounding the home turn and briefly looked a chance. He then kept battling on to take sound second considering he was conceding 5kg to the winner.

Oriental Lady was second most of the way to the home turn. She challenged briefly at the 300m and fought on for third.

Off The Rails was back in seventh place to the 800m, moved up wide from the 600m and then kept battling on to finish (5.4 lengths) fourth.
