Thurlow wins 2015 Sportingbet Chairman’s Stakes Group 3 $150,000 at Sandown-Hillside (VIC) 2yo, 1000m.
Thurlow scored a very smart win. She settled in a nice spot, fifth (with cover) from her good barrier (2). She tracked up well from the 400m, challenged strongly at the 200m, hit the front at the 100m and seemed to win with something in hand by half a length, and in fast time (56.43).
Haybah shared the lead, racing on the rails and moved though to take a clear lead at the 400m. She then fought back gamely all the way to the post for second, putting up a good effort.
Brooklyn enjoyed a nice trip, in fourth place on the rails, from his inside barrier (1). He got through to second at the 300m and then fought on very well for a close-up third in a good first-up performance.
Speedy filly Parcel held the lead, without crossing to the rails to the home turn. She drifted wider from the 400m and did quite well to hold (2.6 lengths) fourth.
The favourite Prompt Return settled in third place, with cover, challenged at the 300m but disappointed over the latter
stages to finish (3.6 lengths) fifth.
