Gypsy Diamond wins 2015 Japan Racing Association Plate Group 3 $ 150,000 at Randwick (NSW) 3yo+, 2000m.
Gypsy Diamond broke through here for her first win since taking out the Carbine Club Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m) at this track 12 months ago. She settled back in ninth place on the rails and remained there until nearing the home turn. She got a split at the 200m, went through to third at the 100m and came with a late run to win well by a half-length.
Leebaz was a handy fourth, moved up nicely at the 600m and looked the winner went he got to the front at the 200m. However, he was overtaken in the closing stages to finish a (half length) second, after appearing to have every chance.
Singing Flame led and slowed the pace (first 1400m 1:28.89). He retained the lead until passed at the 200m and then held on quite well for a sound (two lengths) third.
Destiny's Kiss was last to the home turn, went wide on straightening and ran on well, late, for (2.4 lengths) fourth.
The favourite Malice was sixth, one off the rails, but got hemmed between runners at the 600m. However, he only ran on fairly well when he got clear running from the 200m and finished (3.7 lengths) sixth.
