Calliope wins 2015 Gimcrack Stakes Listed $150,000 at Randwick (NSW) 2yoFillies, 1000m.

Godolphin’s filly Calliope put up an outstanding effort to win on debut. She missed the start badly and was a clear last in the 14-horse field in the early stages before improving to settle in 12th place. She improved between runners rounding the home turn, switched out at the 300m, slowed a great turn of foot to hit the front at the 100m and then went on to score seemingly with plenty in hand. She looks a high class filly.

Jeanneau was also slowly away, was near last early on before improving to be about eighth (between runners) on straightening. But she was then held up for a run and finished well when clear late for a very promising second on debut.

Slumber Party raced in eighth place on the rails, got through on the inner on turning for home to be second at the 200m and then battled on quite well for third.

Twist Tops was caught deep from her outside barrier (14), moved up to be sixth (wide out) at nearing the home turn, put in a good run at the 200m and then held on for (2.9 lengths) fourth after a difficult trip.

Overreactive was sixth on the rails, moved up well at the 200m and then fought on to finish a sound (3.8 lengths) fifth.
