Sacred Eye wins 2015 Caulfield Classic Group 3 $500,000 at Caulfield (VIC) 3yo, 2000m.
Promising filly Sacred Eye claimed favouritism for the VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) with a strong staying effort in winning here at only her fourth race start. She settled nicely in fifth place, one off the rails, improved well (three deep) approaching the home turn, challenged on passing the 200m and finished too well for her male opposition to score impressively.
Lizard Island was smartly away but was trapped deep from barrier nine, was seventh early on, then made a quick move to race outside the leader (Ayers Rock) from the 1200m. He went to the front on straightening and fought gamely for a very good second after working most of the way, enhancing his Victoria Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) prospects.
Godolphin’s Etymology settled in seventh place on the rails, improved between runners at the home turn but was held up before angling into clear running at the 200m. He then ran on well for third, also shaping as a Victoria Derby candidate.
Get The Picture was last in 11-horse field to the 600m, went deep on straightening (under riding) and responded from the 200m, running on in good style for (2.5 lengths) fourth in another nice Victoria Derby trial.
Alkaashef was fourth, one out and one back, moved up at the home turn and battled on quite well for (3.3 lengths) fifth.
