Gai Waterhouse-trained colt Kiss And Make Up graduated quickly from his debut win in a Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate (1200m) at Canterbury on 17 February to take this Group Two race impressively. He went to the front, set a solid tempo (first 600m 34.82), held a good break at the 300m and went on to win in very good style, significantly enhancing his Golden Slipper Stakes prospects.

The previously unbeaten colt Capitalist raced outside the leader and eventual winner, was under pressure at the 300m and kept fighting on to hold second, having no chance with the winner. He was subsequently reported to have pulled up mildly lame.

Weatherly was slowly away and remained in last place to the 600m. He fanned deep rounding the home turn and ran on quite well, without threatening to take the minor placing.

Tessera was third on the rails, was under riding at the home turn and then battled in the straight to finish (5.9 lengths) last in the four-horse field.
