Thronum wins 2016 Randwick City Council Rosebud Listed $100,000 at Randwick (NSW) 3yo, 1200m.
Thronum began well today and soon drove through on the rails from his inside barrier (1) to lead. He then travelled nicely at a reasonable tempo (first 600m 37.40), but was under pressure at the 200m. He then lifted gamely and kept fighting back for a narrow but good win.
The favourite Mediterranean settled in fifth place, one of the rails. He improved between runners nearing the home turn, got through to third (under riding) at the 150m and made good late ground to just miss in a photo for a very sound second in the heavy conditions.
Miss Beneteau raced in last place in the sevenhorse field before saving ground along the rails on the home turn. She got to a narrow lead at the 200m and then fought well for third in a promising effort from a maiden filly at her fourth race start.
Walk Right In was back in sixth place, switched deep at the home turn and battled on quite well for (2.7 lengths) fourth.
Quick Feet raced outside the leader and eventual winner (Thronum) and looked a threat when she challenged at the home turn but she weakened on passing the 200m to finish (3.4 lengths) fifth.
