From her handy draw (2) Honey Rider, under Michael Coleman, began well and took up the trail on the rail. She maintained her rails spot but found herself pocketed in fourth around the bend. Just before straightening, Coleman moved her off the fence and had a nice split to challenge, which she did although she took a few strides to level up to the pace. She then gradually took over with a big enough break to hold on over the final 50m to score fairly well.

Glass Slipper had just two behind her, locked up on the fence with 700m to run. She moved a little closer approaching the last corner but in traffic. She then had to pull wide into the straight and threaded her way between runners, gathering good momentum and letting down strongly over the last 150m to nab a solid second right on the line.

Mystery Show sat outside the winner around the bend and into the straight, was forced four wide and ran on determinedly to the post, just losing second one stride from the finish.

Favourite Volpe Veloce meanwhile injured herself in the stalls and was a late withdrawal.

This G3 1200m for 3yo fillies was won impressively by Honey Ryder that was one of five winners in a row at the meeting to score from sitting either outside the pace or on the trail. The track was racing biased in the main all day with the farthest back on settling any runner came from being seventh and those two winners both moved into fifth turning for home too. Honey Ryder raced on the pace early then took the trail sit and got off turning for home before pouncing and leading at the 150m to score by just under a length in 1:11.94. She had more up the sleeve for sure and the time was just .11 inferior to the Open Handicap held prior and that is a tick but some perspective required as that was a pressure free event. In just three starts Honey Ryder has shown versatility regarding being able to swim a bit and today relished the dead/easy footing so it remains to be seen if she can handle it firm and hard. The runner up Glass Slipper sustained a powerful finish to grab second on the line from well back and cannot possibly remain a maiden for much longer my goodness. She was a tad tardy, which seems in her make-up, but once up to the mile surely if drawn a good barrier it will not be wasted. Glass Slipper has the size and will so soundness and manners are now the factors to be taken care of and to get to a G1 ball. Mystery Show fought well for third after sitting handy the outer and only lost second on the line. It was her first race left-handed so she is sure to have learned plenty and will continue to progress this Spring and onwards. Bella Gioia was ridden completely different today having drawn wide and she got snagged back to the rear. She steamed home too late for fourth, so the tactics backfired to some extent as missed out on G3 blacktype and looking at the track bias it may have been better to press forward. The filly at least did not have a gutbuster so as long as she gets some blacktype next time out or after that this campaign it may not matter but that is a risk as tomorrow is always another day. Indecision was super again after sitting back and wide and she is close to another win or at least a blacktype placing. Sassy ‘N’ Smart was sound and actually was coming back okay the closing stages after hitting a flat patch so she has more to come this Spring too. It’s Time For Magic was wide then took the lead after 300m and had a length buffer still halfway down the home straight. She was headed at the 150m but third still until swamped the closing stages into seventh beaten less than three lengths. The first starter Margot ran a super race as rank outside and did more work than many runners so to finish eighth beaten less than four lengths was commendable indeed. She was back and wide then got burned around deep to get into second after 400m and got within a neck of the leader across the top. She was fourth still at the 200m and fifth at the 100m so ran way ahead of her $69 price. Babe was okay after being tardy while Gold Rush was a tad disappointing though she did get shuffled back and got held up the closing stages to some extent. Her next outing will be pivotal to see where she is in the filly pecking order this season. I Am Gracie is a maiden and had a wide trip so forgive, as she would be odds on back to her own grade. Tesia was back and wide and had a nightmare trip so just put a line through her once you factor in track bias. This looks to be a legitimate future Spring and Summer guide with many fillies in this having scope not just on breeding but also towards the G1 1000 Guineas (1600m), the first big target for this sex in the season.
